Clubs Concerts

7 concerts are presented in each season, which runs from October to March. The core programme usually contains a piano recital, vocal and choral concerts, instrumental recitals, chamber music, and one concert 'with a difference' such as folk music or jazz. Educational workshops are tied in to two or three of the concerts each season.

Further details of past and current programmes can be found on the 'Concerts' pages.

Subscription for 7 concerts at 2009/10 rates costs £30.00, senior citizens £24.00. Concerts are open to all on a one-off basis, and admission at the door costs £7.50, senior citizens £6.00. Admission is free to children of school age. All concerts begin at 7.30pm, unless otherwise specified.

A warm and friendly atmosphere prevails at Dolgellau Music Club concerts, and interval refreshments provide opportunities to converse with and get to know fellow-members of the audience. Musicians are also happy to make themselves known to their listeners, if not in the interval then after the performance. Introductions to the evening's programme are bilingual (as is all the Club's publicity material), and performers are encouraged to provide lively oral introductions to the music themselves, which often adds substantially to the audience's enjoyment. (Where required eg for chamber music, programme notes are supplied.) Visiting performers often comment on the quality of listening they experience from their audience, including from the youngsters.

Concerts are planned in conjunction with an informal consortium of other North Wales music clubs, which ensures the optimum range of talent often by means of coordinated tours. This also reduces the stress on musicians by minimising daily travel between engagements. Quality is the first and last criterion, within viable funding limits. Every effort is made to include Welsh performers in each season's programme, which given current standards is never a problem.

Many performers are also skilled in running workshops, and these have proved an invaluable adjunct to the Club's core programming over the years. Workshops offered have covered voice, piano, percussion, harp, guitar, brass, wind, folk music and jazz. (Feedback on some of the most recent can be found in the 'Reviews' section.) Audience development is an integral part of the Club's work, and the workshops have proved an enjoyable and successful way of achieving this.

Concerts and workshops are supported by funding from the Arts Council of Wales 'Arts for All' Lottery Unit, complemented by local sponsorship. The Club also benefits from affiliation to 'Making Music' (formerly the National Federation of Music Societies).
